All
students
have a right to learn and to grow in an academically
challenging and nurturing environment. The language-enriched
environment at the Maryland School for the Deaf is a
catalyst for developing academic and social skills as
students are immersed in educational, developmental,
and extra-curricular activities.

MSD utilizes a general education curriculumas well as the voluntary statecurriculum. A milestone
was reached in 1993 when MSD adopted the
Essential Curriculum developed by and used in
the Frederick County Public Schools. By adopting
this curriculum, deaf and hard-of-hearing students
at MSD are ensured an equitable and high quality
education. This curriculum is approved by the
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
MSD awards the Maryland High School diplomas.
Deaf and hard-of-hearing students thrive in an
accessible world where staff members provide not
only instruction but meaningful interaction. The
goal is for students to receive top-quality education
while having opportunities to participate fully in
drama, sports, and other activities, such as National
Honor Society; Junior National Association of the
Deaf; and Academic Bowl.
For Maryland residents, there is no cost to
families and referrals are accepted at any time. |
