This is a solicitation to develop a list of qualified applicants for faculty positions with benefits; faculty long-term special payroll (91-180 days); and/or faculty short-term special payroll positions (1-90 days) for vacancies as they occur during the 2008 – 2009 school year.  Special Payroll positions are hourly employees with no benefits.

POSITION:

Teacher - Family Education/Early Childhood Department – Columbia Campus and Frederick Campus (Part-Time and Full-Time positions)

 

 

NATURE OF WORK:

To teach deaf and hard of hearing children ages birth to 5 years and their families; ability to teach children with additional disabilities; to provide information and instruction regarding implications of deafness to all family members; to implement curriculum for children and parents alike; to develop and to implement IFSPs/IEPs; to develop goals and objectives; to document achievement of students; to maintain statistics regarding progress of children and families; to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment; to improve professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional activities; to represent MSD at local and state meetings upon request; to exemplify and encourage the implementation of Bilingual Education concepts throughout the school and on home visits; to address the needs of children using cochlear implants or children who are hard of hearing; to conduct nursery classes and parent group meetings both off and on campus as required; to work in collaboration with other FE/EI team members and with local infants and toddlers programs around the state as well as other service providers; and to assume other responsibilities as designated by the Director of FE/EC or the Deputy Superintendent/Principal.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Deaf Education. Master's Degree in Early Childhood or Deaf Education preferred. Candidates must be eligible for or willing to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).  Two years teaching experience preferred. Fluency in ASL and written English required.  Knowledge of Deaf community required. Sensitivity to needs of families who have newly identified deaf children.  Ability to teach Deaf children with additional disabilities. A valid driver's license.  Must have physical ability to make home visits throughout the state of Maryland on a regular basis. Ability to lift equipment and/or children up to 50 pounds in the classroom or on home visits. Willingness to work flexible hours as a team member.  Ability to serve on school committees. Willingness to work at either Frederick or Columbia campuses.

 

 

SALARY:

Commensurate with education and experience (10-month position).

Candidates appointed to this position will be assigned duties which require the operation of a state motor vehicle.
