Pending Approval of 2008-2009 School Year Budget

This is a solicitation to develop a list of qualified applicants for faculty positions with benefits; faculty long-term special payroll (91-180 days); and/or faculty short-term special payroll positions (1-90 days) for vacancies as they occur during the 2008 – 2009 school year.  Special Payroll positions are hourly employees with no benefits.

POSITION:

Academic Teacher - Columbia Campus (Elementary, Middle and Transitional Departments), and Frederick Campus (Elementary School, Middle School, High School, Career Technology Education)

 

 

NATURE OF WORK:

To teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing students (PreK-12) utilizing MSD Essential and Life Based Education Curricula; develop IEP goals and objectives, and other appropriate materials and activities; prepare lesson plans, reports and keep records of student progress; be knowledgeable in Deaf students with Special Needs (LBE) programming and curricula; ascertain learning needs of students and establish evaluation techniques for assessment of progress; participate in the maintenance of Bilingual Education concepts throughout the School; establish and maintain standards of student behavior and attitude needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment; improve professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities; participate in student after-school activities as appropriate; and assume other responsibilities as designated by the Assistant Principal or Principal.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree required.  Master's degree in Education of Deaf students, or Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities preferred.  Candidates must be eligible for or willing to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Fluency in ASL and written English required. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational background required.

 

 

SALARY:

Commensurate with education and experience.

CLOSING DATE:

Application materials for initial round of interviews must be postmarked on or before April 25, 2008.  Application materials received after April 25 may be considered for future interviews.

 

 

 

Individuals from traditionally underserved and underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applications will be prescreened before candidates are invited for personal interviews. Preference will be given to applicants for teaching positions  who already meet the Highly Qualified Standards of the No Child Left Behind Act as part of Maryland Certification requirements.  MSD will assist teachers from out of state in obtaining Maryland Certification, an employment requirement.  Certification information can be found at http://certification.msde.state.md.us.

Candidates appointed to this position will be assigned duties which require the operation of a state motor vehicle.
