POSITION:

Behavioral Specialist – Student Life Program – Frederick Campus (Contractual)

 

 

NATURE OF WORK:

To establish and monitor behavior programs for deaf students with other moderate to severe disabilities in the student life program including defining behaviors, collecting and analyzing data, designing programs and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP), Crisis Intervention Plans (CIP), preparing staff to implement programs, monitoring and updating the programs and submitting all appropriate reports related to the programs; train professional staff regarding students in the Enhanced Program; provide direct leadership in managing student behavior and crisis management; provide direct leadership and supervision in the use of time-out and other behavioral interventions; participate in the maintenance of MSD Bilingual Education concepts throughout the School; become fully cognizant of all laws and other legal aspects of educating deaf students with moderate to severe disabilities; work in conjunction with the Dean of Students, Student Life Counselor Supervisor and Student Life Counselors for residential students and with Academic Behavior Specialists to ensure communication between classroom and dormitories concerning students with behavior issues; assume other duties as directed by the Dean of Students.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or Social Work preferred.  Two years of full-time experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students with special needs preferred.  Must have general understanding and/or background in mental health of Deaf Students and behavior management  programs and techniques. Knowledge of federal and state laws desired. Fluency in ASL and written English required. Ability to work with a variety of constituents required. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Skills in organization, supervision, and coordination of activities required. Knowledge of curricula for deaf students with special needs desired.

 

SALARY:

Commensurate with education and experience (10-month contractual position).
