Position Vacancy Notice

This is a solicitation to develop a list of qualified applicants for faculty positions with benefits; faculty long-term special payroll (91-180 days); and/or faculty short-term special payroll positions (1-90 days) for vacancies as they occur during the 2008 – 2009 school year.  Special Payroll positions are hourly employees with no benefits.

POSITION:

Teacher - Enhanced Program of Services - Columbia and Frederick Campuses

 

NATURE OF WORK:

To implement an educational program and teach deaf students with moderate to severe disabilities; provide diagnostic/prescriptive services and all required reports related to the students’ progress;  work in conjunction with the Behavioral Specialist/Enhanced Program Coordinator/Assistant Principal in the development and implementation of classroom behavior management programs; prepare Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); provide for the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of the students; participate in staffings and other meetings regarding the students; work closely with the families of the students; develop and/or implement curricula for deaf students with other moderate to severe disabilities; work with Local School Systems regarding the student and the program; participate in the maintenance of MSD Bilingual Education concepts throughout the School; assume other duties as directed by the Behavioral Specialist/Enhanced Program Coordinator, the Assistant Principal, and Principal.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or SPD required. Two years’ experience teaching students with special needs preferred. Master’s Degree in same areas preferred. Candidates must be eligible for or willing to obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).  Fluency in ASL and written English required. Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on different levels and with varying educational background required.

Preference will be given to applicants for teaching positions  who already meet the Highly Qualified Standards of the No Child Left Behind Act as part of Maryland Certification requirements.  MSD will assist teachers from out of state in obtaining Maryland Certification, an employment requirement.  Certification information can be found at http://certification.msde.state.md.us.

Candidates appointed to this position will be assigned duties which require the operation of a state motor vehicle.
