Columbia...a country-like campus
The Columbia Campus opened in 1973 as part of the planned community of Columbia to offer an educational program in the population center of the state. The campus is located in the Baltimore-Washington corridor and is near several major highways.
During its inaugural year, fifty students ranging in age from four to nine were enrolled. Today, Columbia Campus serves about 120 students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. Most of the students are day students, and a small number reside in modern residence hall facilities.
The campus' Elementary School serves Deaf students from age four through age twelve. The Transitional Department and Middle School serve Deaf students with mild disabilities from age four through age sixteen offering additional support services in behavioral modification, counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychiatric services.
