What We Offer

  • We provide free public education for children from birth through age 21 who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, reside in Maryland, and meet the MSD admissions criteria.
  • Maryland High School Diplomas and MSD Diplomas are awarded to graduating seniors who meet course/testing requirements.
  • All MSD programs are fully accredited by the Middle States Assocation of Colleges and Schools.
  • Children and youth from out-of-state who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing who meet the MSD admissions criteria may attend our program by paying tuition.
  • For students with additional needs, we provide specialized resources with the goal of positive academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • We have campuses in Frederick (pre-school through twelfth grade) and Columbia (pre-school through eighth grade). At both we have residential facilites, although the Columbia Campus population is primarily day students.
  • Health Centers on each campus are open 24 hours a day when students are in residence for the treatment of minor injuries and illnesses.
  • Bus transportation is provided throughout the state, stopping in the home area of each child. Residential students go home on Fridays and return to the campus on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
  • MSD is governed by a nineteen-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor and approved by the Maryland Senate. The school is primarily supported by state funds.
