After School Program

After School Program — Enhanced Services

I.    Purpose

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is fundamental to Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) and your child's well-being is our first priority in ensuring the best care is provided for your child. This administrative procedure outlines the process of making individualized decisions about the accommodations a student needs to safely and meaningfully participate in after-school programs (ASP).

II.   Definitions

Enhanced services: additional support deemed necessary in order for the student to participate meaningfully in the academic and social environment and acquire skills needed to become as independent as possible.

Reasonable accommodations: modifications or adjustments to the task, environment, or the way things are usually done that enable equal opportunity for participation.

III.  Procedures

A.   Upon completion of the ASP registration process, the individualized decision making process is conducted by MSD's ASP administration team. The following members may make up the ASP administration team:
      • Director of Student Affairs
      • Director of IEP Services
      • Director of Enhanced Services
      • Director of Student Life
      • Chief Educational Programs Officer Designee
B.   The ASP administration team will collaborate with any member of the student's IEP team in order to determine support needed for the student to successfully participate in ASP.

C.   The ASP administration team will follow up with the parent/guardian regarding the status of enrollment within 5-10 business days.
      • Note: This review process is conducted annually at the time of registration even if a child was enrolled in ASP in previous years.
