School Assessment Data

During the Fall 2023 semester, MSD delivered assessments to collect data for classroom instruction, to identify student needs, and to track progress.

The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), an assessment for kindergarteners; the American Reading Company Core (ARC Core), a reading assessment for first graders and the IXL Real-Time Diagnostic, a mathematics assessment for first grade students were delivered to students in-person during the Fall 2023 semester. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), a reading and mathematics assessment for students in grades 2-12 were delivered to students in-person during the Fall 2023 semester.

For reference, school data from the aforementioned assessments is included by student group and grade level. The percentage listed in the charts indicate the percentage of students performing on grade-level or above their grade-level.

The Maryland School for the Deaf is considered a Separate Public Day School by the Maryland State Department of Education. Because it is identified in this way, MSD is seen by the state as a school that provides 100% specially designed instruction to all of its students, regardless of the level of need an MSD student requires in support throughout the school day. Hence, all students at MSD are required to have an IEP. Therefore, reported school data include all MSD students, including students with additional disabilities.

Due to the legal requirements under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the number of students in a subgroup to yield statistically reliable information, data for groups of less than 10 students are not shown and replaced with an asterisk in this report. Additionally, MSD students are not qualified for the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program (FARMS) and do not qualify for identification as English Language Learners (ELL). Hence, data is not collected and disaggregated for each service group; data is not reported for the American with Disabilities Act/Section 504, FARMS, and ELL student groups.
