Transportation Services
It is the responsibility of each local school system to provide or arrange transportation for students attending the Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD). The counties and the State of Maryland provide weekly and/or daily transportation, depending on each student's needs. These plans are discussed and determined during your child's IEP meeting.
Some students travel to MSD on Sundays or Mondays to stay in the dormitory during the week and return home on Fridays. Others commute daily by bus to and from school.
Bus routes are arranged across the state, with designated stops near each student's home. If your home county does not offer bus service, another country will be assigned to provide it. Families are responsible for getting their child to and from the assigned bus stop.
Transportation services are coordinated by transportation coordinators in the Main Office at your child's campus. These coordinators work closely with county transportation offices. If you have questions or need to request an emergency change, please contact your campus transportation coordinator.
— How Inclement Weather Affects Transportation
MSD follows the transportation schedules of local school systems. If your home county's schools are closed or delayed due to inclement weather, transportation to MSD will be affected—even if MSD is open.
>> If your county's schools are closed, there will be no bus transportation to MSD.
>> If your county's schools are delayed, bus service to MSD will also be delayed.
>> If your county dismisses early, your child will be dismissed early from MSD as well.
All absences due to county transportation closures will be marked as excused.
