MDB Winter 2024 Issue
About This Issue

The cover features MSD's middle school students who excelled in national academic competitions during the 2023-2024 school year. The accompanying article goes beyond those pictured, drawing on insights from current students, alumni, and educators to explore how Academic Bowl, Battle of the Books, Math Competition, Debate Bowl, and Robotics help build confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose. These opportunities empower Deaf and hard of hearing students to embrace challenges, discover new interests, and pursue future academic and career goals.

This winter edition spans 68 pages and covers highlights from early December through late March of the 2023-2024 school year. In addition to a full recap of Clerc Classic XXII, which MSD hosted in January, the issue features an in-depth look at STEM education across both campuses—from robotics and coding to hands-on science challenges and visits from Deaf professionals. You'll also find coverage of MSD's historic faculty and staff union contract signing and a behind-the-scenes look at student advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill.

The magazine also includes campus news and stories from student organizations and clubs, including Frederick's middle school production of Peter/Wendy. You'll find season recaps from our winter sports teams as well. In our alumni profile, we spotlight on Celine Daze' ('08), a Special Emphasis Portfolio Strategist for People with Disabilities at the National Institutes of Health and Gallaudet University's newest stunt head coach, along with updates on other alumni and community members.
