On Nov. 19, members of the Ways and Means Committee, a committee from the Maryland House of Delegates responsible for legislation related to children, youth, and families, and education financing, visited the Maryland School for the Deaf's Columbia Campus.
Middle School Student Council President Zachary Thompson and Secretary Michaela Allen Raeke led the visiting delegation on a guided tour, eloquently sharing insights about the school's programs and offerings. Their leadership and communication provided a compelling overview of MSD's impact on students and the broader community.
The committee members in attendance were:
- Chair Vanessa Atterbeary (Howard County)
- Vice Chair Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins (Montgomery County)
- Delegate Eric Ebersole (Howard County, Education Subcommittee Chair)
- Delegate Jessica Feldmark (Howard County)
- Delegate Kris Fair (Frederick County, Education Subcommittee Member)
- Delegate Julie Palakovich Carr (Montgomery County, Early Childhood Subcommittee Chair)
- Delegate April Miller (Frederick County, Education Subcommittee Member)
- Delegate Bernice Mireku-North (Montgomery County, Early Childhood Subcommittee Member)
MSD was honored to host the committee and share the important work being done to support and empower deaf and hard of hearing students across the state. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with these dedicated state leaders to advance deaf education initiatives in Maryland.
