Home Visits

One of the critical foundations of the program is the home visit which provides for a teacher's support of the family. Home visits are tailored to share current information and resources to support family involvement in their child/children's education and language acquisition.

Children begin learning at birth. Our home visits offer these benefits:

MSD teachers and professionals visit families statewide in their homes/communities, providing individualized support.

Use of a collaborative approach, which promotes each family's active participation in their child's development and fundamental early learning.

Teachers work with families, modeling activities and approaches that support children's early acquisition of language and overall development using toys, books, and other items from the family's home.

Home visits can be initiated as soon as children are identified as deaf or hard of hearing; this ensures that children have access to visual language as soon as possible.

MSD teachers regularly share information and resources on raising a deaf or hard of hearing child, as well as coach parents/caregivers as they learn signs to use with their child throughout their daily routines.

Guidance and support is provided to empower families to develop support networks and connect with local resources.
