IEP Team Members

The IEP team will include:

  • The parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student;
  • At least one teacher
    • The law requires that at least one “general education teacher” is in attendance at an IEP meeting; however, at MSD, all of our teachers are Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teachers, or Special Education Teachers (or both). In the eyes of the state, they do not qualify as “general educators” unless they hold that specific certification as well, and our school is not a “general education setting”; therefore, we are not required to provide a “general education teacher” at our meetings.
  • A representative who is:
    • Qualified to provide or supervise the provision of specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing, and who may have additional disabilities; and,

    • Knowledgeable about the curriculum and about the availability of resources at MSD;
  • Someone who is able to interpret instructional implications of test/evaluation results;
  • Other individuals, at the discretion of the parent or school, who have knowledge or special expertise regarding the student, including related service personnel, as appropriate;
  • The student, if appropriate
  • When the student is 14 years old, or older, Transition Services will be discussed and a member of the Transition Services team must be in attendance as well;
    • The student must be invited to this meeting

    • A representative of an agency that may support or become responsible for providing or paying for transition services, with the consent of the:

      • Student’s parent/guardian; or

      • Student, if the student has reached the age of majority;

        • If the student is unable to attend the meeting, the public agency shall take other steps to ensure the student’s preferences and interest are considered;

        • If an invited representative of a participating agency does not attend the meeting, the public agency shall take other steps to obtain the involvement of the agency in the planning and provision of transition services.
